October 2006 Newsletter

It is importantthat you attend our October 12, 2006 meeting THE TOPICS AFFECT THE FUTURE OFOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. The meeting will be at 7:30 PM in the Marriott Hotel. Asusual, the Marriott will graciously provide a room and refreshments.
We will have twopresenters.
The newowners of the K Mart property will be asking us for OUR IDEASabout how best to use this large property. THEY WILL SHARE THEIR THOUGHTSABOUT WHAT MIGHT BE BUILT ON THE PROPERTY. At this time they have architect’ssketches illustrating possible uses of this property. There are no designs. This will be our first opportunity to influence the future of a large part ofour neighborhood! The new owners wanted us to be the first citizen group tohave this opportunity because we are such close neighbors. This is OURchance to contribute!

StreetSweeping and Recycling Schedule: OCTOBER 2006
STREET SWEEPING will be Mondays the 2nd and 16thand Wednesdays October 4th and 18th. The sweeperwill be here between 9-11 AM, in order to AVOID A TICKET and FINE moveyour vehicles! RECYCLING by Allied Waste will be Fridays October10th and 24th. Recycle all newspapers, cans,plastics, glass, and cardboard (please remember to cut cardboard into squarepieces). Don’t forget your garden clippings as well. NEIGHBORS, REMEMBERYOUR GARBAGE CANS AND RECYCLE BINS MUST BE STORED OUT OF SIGHT AFTER THEPICKUP! We all want to be good neighbors and comply with City codes!
As you haveseen in the news, in July the median sales price of existing homes fell for thefirst time in 11 years. David Lereah National Association of Realtors®.economist, said home sales appear to be leveling out. “After astronger-than-expected drop in July, the fairly even sales numbers in Augusttell us the market is at a more sustainable pace,” he said. “It keeps us ontrack to see the third highest sales year on record, but we do expect anadjustment in home prices to last several months as we work through a build upin the inventory of homes.

Our FireStations invite you to an Open House from 10 AM – 2 PM Saturday October 7. OlderDriver Traffic Safety Seminars
Weall know someone who is beginning to worry about how they can manage to getaround when it is no longer safe for them to drive. The CHP, SupervisorAdrienne Tissier, Sam Trans, and others are providing seminars to help answerthese concerns. Subjects covered will include: myths about older drivers,compensating for age related changes, “Tune Up” your driving skills, rules ofthe road, a confidential self-evaluation, nutrition and strength, safe drivingtips, transportation alternatives.
