Program for the night: Citizens Concerned About Chloramine (CCAC) President Denise Johnson-Kula will make apresentation on "Is your tap water safe?"

If you still havequestions about our drinking water, you won’t want to miss this presentation.There will be a question and answer period and lots of handouts too! Bring yourneighbor and joins us.

 

Lastmonth’s meeting was a great success; we had over 75 residents from 19th Ave Park and Sunnybrae Neighborhood. City Staff outlined what they hopeto do to get homeowners out of the Flood Zone (FEMA). More information on thissubject will be addressed as the City decides what options to take. We willkeep you informed on this very important issue.

The City of San Mateo City Services Academy.

The City Services Academy is a comprehensive hands-on learning experience thatgives participants an opportunity to interact with City staff and learn aboutthe challenges facing municipal government today. Interactive activities willgive Academy participants a better understanding of the evolving principles of San Mateo’s Council/City Manager form of government. The Spring 2006 Academy meets oneevening per week from March 8 through May 24.

Street Sweeping and Recycling Schedule: March 2006

StreetSweepingwill be on Mondays, March 6th and 20th and Wednesdays,March 1st and 15th.  The sweeper will be here between9-11 AM, so please remember to move your vehicles in order to avoid a ticket. Recyclingby Allied Waste/BFI is on Fridays, March 3rd, 17thand 31st. Please recycle all your newspapers, cans, plastics,glass, and cardboard (remember to cut cardboard into square pieces). Don’tforget your garden clippings as well.  Just a note to remind residentsthat cans must be stored out of sight after Allied Waste/BFI makes its pickup!We all want to be good neighbors!

 

19th Ave Park Homeowner’sMembership DUES for 2006

Itis time to renew your membership in 19th Ave Park for the year 2006.Our HOA depends on member’s dues to support its functions throughout the yearand 19th Ave Park dues are a bargain still only $12.00 a year perhousehold! The membership fee covers costs for printing our newsletters andincidental expenses of running the association. Residents receive monthlynewsletters keeping them up to date on important events in the neighborhood andour community. We have a general meeting that is open to all our residents atthe Marriott Hotel on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. 

19TH Ave Park represents all our residents whetheryou’re a homeowner or a renter.  We stay on top of important issues thatcome before the City Council, and sponsor speakers of interest at our meetings.Please join our neighborhood association and make your voice heard! Send yourchecks to Ed Halbrook our Treasurer at 1767 Wolfe Drive, SM CA. 94402or drop it off at either his home or at our President’s home on 1603 WolfeDrive. Better yet bring it to our next homeowner’s meeting on March 9th.

Residentsof 19th Ave Park can do two things to support our Association,  (1)Attend our once a month meeting on the second Thursday of each month at theMarriott Hotel at 7:30 PM. The Marriott Hotel provides us with a meeting roomand refreshments. And (2) please join us by making out a check for the annualdues for only $12.00. What a bargain!  One-dollar a month! New Main Library

Constructionon the Main Library is over 70% complete. Finishing stones are going on theexterior and sheet rock on the interior. The City Council has awarded thecontracts to purchase furniture and equipment. The library is scheduled to openthis summer. The San Mateo Library Foundation continues to work on fundraising.Some naming and recognition opportunities still remain. New Police Station

TheCity Council has approved the design for the new Police Station. The stationwill be located at Saratoga and Franklin Parkway. With completion scheduled forearly 2008. Like the new library, the police station will be a certified "green"building, incorporating energy saving and environmentally sensitive designelements.

Safety Services to be strengthened

Ina planning session for the upcoming budget, the City Council directed thereinstatement of Fire Engine 21 (located in the downtown, Ellsworth streetstation) to 24/7 staffing. The engine was taken out of service during non-peakhours as one of many cost reductions necessary to balance the City’s budgetover the past two years. The Council also authorized the establishment of aNarcotics Task Force in the Police Department. The task force will help theSMPD keep drugs off the streets of our community. Both of these actions will beeffective July 1, 2006 and will be funded for two years.

Parks and Recreation

TheParks and Recreation Department’s Spring Activity Guide is now available.Copies may be picked up at any recreation center or City Hall. You can alsoaccess the guide and register for activities from the comfort of your home.Simply go to the City’s website and click on "I want to register for arecreation class" at www.cityofsanmateo.org
