19th AVE PARK NEWSLETTER
Our next meeting:
Date: Thursday, September 9, 2004
Time: 7:30 PM
Place: Marriott Hotel (meeting room, refreshments, and free parking courtesy of the Marriott Hotel)
We welcome all residents of 19th Ave Park. Please join us and get acquainted with your neighbors.
We have an exciting program for this month’s meeting. We will have several speakers attending our Homeowner’s meeting this month.
One of our speakers will be Karen Herrel, who was very active in drafting the new Measure P, which preserves the legacy of Measure H, which was adopted in 1991.Karen will explain why all San Mateo Voters should support Measure P on the November Ballot You can find the text of Measure P on the City of San Mateo website at www.cityofsanmateo.org/dept/planning
We will also have a developer’s representative speak to us about the status of the KENMARK PROJECT; this is the development of the property near the TeleCenter and old Denny’s. They will be showing us the plans for building the project’s public benefit, a new sidewalk design that will be built on the same side of the street as the Shell Station on Concar Blvd., leading to the Hayward Train Station.
Mr. Jerry Hill, who is our County of San Mateo Supervisor and Mr. Matt Grocott, who is also a Council member of San Carlos, will debate Measure A, which will be on this November ballot. This is the measure that deals with extending the ½ cent tax for transportation issues. It will be a very interesting discussion. So, whether you support or oppose Measure A, come out to our meeting and hear what they have to say about it.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 7:30 PM at the Marriott Hotel. Join us and be informed on issues affecting San Mateo and our neighborhood.
Hillsdale and Marina Branch Libraries have reopened.
Please take time to visit your local libraries and see what’s new on their shelves. Maybe check out a book or two.
Walk of Honor, September 16, 2004. This annual event celebrates the best of San Mateo, recognizing exemplary contributors to our community. The festivities will include music, dessert and the closure of 3rd Ave. between El Camino Real and San Mateo Drive to accommodate the party.
Connie and Eleanor residents;
Before the rainy season starts, those living on the South side of Connie and the West side of Eleanor who believe they still have backyard drainage problems because of higher soil outside the new fence should write the City Engineer, Mintze Cheng (330 W. 20th Ave., San Mateo, CA 94403) or mcheng@cityofsanmateo.org or 522-7306. Report the problem and ask that the City repair it before the rainy season causes damage to your property.
The State Has a Budget!
On July 31st, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the 2004 – 2005 State Budget. Through agreements made between the state and local governments, the City will see an additional loss of revenue of approximately.
$1.5 million per year for the next two years. Because of aggressive cost reduction over the past couple of years and the establishment of a stability reserve to address a temporary circumstance such as this, the City will be able to absorb this loss without further service reductions.
Included in the adopted State budget is a proposed constitutional amendment, Proposition 1A, which will go on the November 2004 ballot. This measure, if approved by the voters, will provide protection for local revenue that will significantly reduce the ability of the State to take local revenue in the future.
